You should always have vanilla beans in your pantry but in case you run out, vanilla bean paste is the next best thing to have around. Unlike vanilla extract, vanilla bean paste contains the seeds that you would get from scraping the bean, making it much more flavorful and intense. The good news is that you can now find the paste in many grocery stores and it is more affordable than buying the actual beans. You can also find it online here.
